Gcore expands LATAM edge to meet surging demand for real-time gaming

Gcore, a provider of edge AI solutions collaborated with Funcom to support the launch of Dune: Awakening in LATAM, providing infrastructure for seamless, real-time gameplay. The game reached 189,000 concurrent players during its first weekend, becoming the #1 top-selling game on Steam.

Gcore’s services included bare metal servers with AMD Ryzen CPUs, managed Kubernetes for scalable multiplayer services, and advanced DDoS protection.

Gcore’s LATAM infrastructure, anchored in São Paulo, ensures low latency and high performance, with private peering agreements with major ISPs like Claro and TIM.

“LATAM possess a huge number of passionate gamers, but the infrastructure hasn’t been able to support gaming experiences of elsewhere,” says Ilya Matveev, US Territory Manager at Gcore. “However, Gcore is able to deliver high-frequency compute in markets like South America, meaning game publishers can unlock the immense LATAM potential and can adjust GTM strategies to include it. Gaming is Gcore heritage, so we’re delighted to support bringing huge titles to everyone.”

Managed Kubernetes allowed dynamic scaling to handle player demand, ensuring smooth gameplay during launch spikes. Gcore’s DDoS protection filters attack traffic locally, ensuring faster and more reliable performance.

Gcore also supported Funcom during pre-launch beta testing, which saw 40,000 concurrent players. This move underscores the growing importance of high-frequency compute and scalable orchestration at the edge to support real-time, immersive digital experiences.
