Tottenham could be left empty-handed in their pursuit of Mohammed Kudus, as Chelsea move closer to selling Noni Madueke – a development that could drastically alter the winger’s next destination.
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus has not been smooth sailing this summer, as the North London club look to bolster their attacking options.
Although the Ghanaian forward has an £85 million release clause applicable to Premier League clubs, it has been widely reported that interested parties, including Tottenham, could secure his signature for significantly less.
A figure in the region of £60–65 million is believed to be West Ham’s asking price for Kudus, but Tottenham’s offer of £50 million plus £12.5 million in add-ons has not been enough to tempt the Hammers, who have rejected three proposals now.
Chelsea could hijack Tottenham move for Mohammed Kudus
Kudus is said to be prioritising a move to Tottenham, and several reports have suggested that Spurs remain active in their attempts to sign the West Ham star.
However, according to the Guardian, West Ham are reluctant to negotiate with Tottenham, as they consider them direct rivals in the Premier League.
Other clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, have also expressed interest in Kudus, but the publication notes that while a sale to Tottenham is unlikely, West Ham would be open to selling Kudus to Chelsea.
The Blues, however, are looking to sell Noni Madueke before coming in with a new offer for Kudus, with West Ham reported to be anticipating said bid.
Noni Madueke sale could open door for Chelsea Kudus bid
Of course, Chelsea are currently looking to offload former Tottenham man Noni Madueke, and with the Guardian suggesting that the Blues could turn to Kudus if Madueke departs, Tottenham’s grip on their primary target could be slipping.
Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update that is far from encouraging for Tottenham fans, with the transfer insider stating that Madueke is closing in on an exit from Stamford Bridge.
Romano reports that Arsenal have reached a full agreement on personal terms with Madueke, with the England international having already given the green light to Mikel Arteta’s project.

Talks between the clubs are expected to begin in the coming days. Should that deal materialise, Chelsea could step up their interest in Kudus, leaving Tottenham with little room for error.
