Driver denies injuring ex-girlfriend while performing doughnuts in car park

A BMW driver has appeared in court accused of causing serious injury to a former girlfriend by allegedly performing “doughnuts” in a supermarket car park.

Dylan Underdown has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after the woman was reportedly struck by his vehicle and trapped between it and a metal container.

She broke her leg in 12 places.

The 23-year-old was allegedly performing the dangerous manoeuvre while at the wheel of his BMW M Sport car in the Adsa supermarket car park on the Trinity Trading Estate, in Mill Way, Sittingbourne, in August.

“Doughnuts” is a slang term for a driving manoeuvre where a vehicle spins in circles, leaving circular skid marks on the ground.

Underdown, of Eclipse Drive, Sittingbourne, appeared unrepresented before magistrates in Medway on July 1 and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard the incident occurred at about 11.15pm on August 29.

Terry Knox, prosecuting, said the case was so serious it should be sent to the crown court to be dealt with.

Magistrates agreed to send the case to Maidstone Crown Court and told Underdown he should get some legal advice before he appeared there.

He was granted bail until July 28, when he is expected to appear at the Maidstone court for a preliminary hearing.
