Casino-payments specialist Sightline Payments early Tuesday announced the launch of Sightline Debit, a demand-deposit account and debit card service for gamers to hold funds in a bank account and place wagers using a Visa-branded debit card.
Developed in collaboration with Cross River Bank, which will hold the accounts, Sightline Debit is expected to lower the cost of payments for gaming operators by reducing their reliance on cash for wagers placed. Funds held within a Sightline Debit account can be used across physical and online gaming platforms using a single digital payment method.
Digitizing the movement of money within the gaming industry is expected to create operating efficiencies that will generate $3.5 billion in savings in the next five years, Sightline says. The company based its estimated savings on “broad adoption” of Sightline Debit. On average, the cost of payments in digital gaming is 4.5 times higher than it is in other industries, Sightline adds.

“The cost of payments in digital gaming is staggeringly high,” Sightline chief executive and co-founder Omer Sattar says in a statement. “We painstakingly took the payment ecosystem apart and reassembled it, creating an entirely new, bespoke ecosystem where payments in gaming now is cheaper for operators and easier, safer, and more responsible for patrons.”
Sightline expects to begin rolling out the new payment option in the coming weeks with several leading digital-gaming markets.
