An interesting type of new gaming venue will officially open its doors this week in Loudoun County – the first location in Virginia.

We’re talking about Activate – a live-action gaming venue where players move through a variety of rooms competing and defeating challenges.

The company has announced the new Activate in Sterling will open tomorrow – Wednesday, August 27.

The Burn first broke the news about Activate coming last December. It’s taken a 9,200 s.f. space in the Cascades Marketplace shopping center.

That’s the same center in Sterling with the new CHIKO restaurant, the new Taco Bamba, the new Paris Baguette, the new Brasserie Royale, and the upcoming Shake Shack and Mezah Mediterranean Grill.

At Activate, players compete in games that have them leaping across a lighted floor and only landing on “safe” spots. Or dodging laser lights. Or figuring out patterns in illuminated buttons covering a wall.

Activate is an international brand with gaming venues across the U.S. and it’s in a dozen or so overseas countries as well.

On social media, Activate has been touting that it will be offering free games to folks for the first few days – from August 27 to August 30.
