It follows a huge emergency response yesterday evening, when paramedics were seen treating a man on the seafront.

Seven ambulances and five police cars joined an air ambulance crew next to Swalecliffe Avenue car park, which is around the corner from the church in Hampton Pier Ave.

A police spokesman confirmed they were called to a report of a serious assault in Hampton Pier Avenue shortly before 7pm.

He added: “Officers and paramedics attended the scene where a man was treated for injuries.

“He was taken to a London hospital by air ambulance for further medical attention.

“Nobody has been arrested at this stage and an investigation into the circumstances is underway.”

George Batten, who lives nearby, said “there was so much shock and panic” when he first saw emergency services at about 7.30pm.

“There were lots of young people – teenagers – that were very distressed and upset,” he said.

“Police had taped off an area next to the Londis shop nearby.”

The air ambulance left the scene at about 8.30pm.
