The Tuesday letters page worries that Forza Horizon 6 will be discontinued after only a few years, as one reader wonders if Xbox will ever go back to making exclusives.

Speak up
There’s been a lot of talk about the next Nintendo Direct but what about Sony, who also usually have a State of Play in September? They’ve already had one for Ghost Of Yōtei, so I think a new general one could be very positive.

They’ve been so quiet for so long they must realise that people are getting fed up of them and that now is the time to try and win fans back. More importantly, they must have a bunch of stuff almost finished, that we can get some proper news on.

We know Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is coming along, and they said that Returnal follow-up Saros is out next year. Who know what’s going on with Wolverine but surely it must be far enough by now that they can show it?

Sony have been so quiet for so long it’s hard to even remember what they were like in the PlayStation 4 era, but it definitely didn’t use to be like this. I’ve given up hoping it can go back to the way it was but surely we can at least meet things halfway and, you know… announce some new games.

Reaction time
The is pretty wild about Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 pre-orders doing so badly. Getting beaten by Battlefield 6 is one thing but a Metal Gear Solid remake, a basketball game, and Borderlands 4? And just a few days after pre-orders went up as well. Those alarm bells at Activision must be deafening at the moment but what can they do?

If a game takes at least five years to make nowadays then next year’s Call Of Duty is already four-fifths done and 2027’s is over half finished. It’s going to be years before Activision can react to this and by that point who knows what the situation will be.

Those rumours saying Activision were silly not investing in alternative franchise might be more right than they know.

Direct remake
Of all the announcements I’m waiting for from Nintendo right now I think a Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 must be right up there with another 1-2-Switch. But if you like it then fine, I’m pretty sure we’re not going to get a whole Direct on it.

Given the dates I’d say a Super Mario Bros 40th anniversary theme has got to be what it’s about and so through that we’ll get the fabled secret Christmas Switch 2 game. I imagine it’ll be a compilation, or at most a remake, but you can’t really argue with an anniversary that big.

If Nintendo are feeling adventurous I’d really like to see a 2.5D remake of the original game but I’m not sure if they’d really go to that much trouble. That I’d buy but I’m not so sure about yet another straight re-release.

Like buses
You wait for years then two of your most anticipated games with uncertain release windows arrive two days of each other.

Hollow Knight: Silksong shadow-ish dropped for the 4th of September and then a few days after, the sort of fare I bought a VR headset for, Aces Of Thunder, is given a 2nd of September release (according to its PSN listing) for PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR.

Both hopefully timed with the weather getting cooler and my appetite for longer gaming sessions returning. Anything above 25 and I’m done in general.

I’ve a comfy pair of tracksuit trousers ready to go and looking forward to immersing myself in this wonderful pastime called gaming.

Expiry date
I’m all up for a Forza Horizon 6 set in Japan. Although I don’t know how authentic it’s going to be given the developer is British. Forza Horizon is a great series but the problem with it is that because they’re licensed cars the games only exist for three or four years before they’re taken down for sale.

You can’t buy the one set in the UK anymore and that’s crazy. I wish they’d create alternative, fake cars that they can swap in once the licensed ones run out. Or do the reverse and import the maps into the next game. Just leaving everything to be deleted after a few hours seems like such a waste.

I don’t know how much a full collection of Forza Horizon games on disc goes for at the moment but it must be quite a lot. Here’s looking forward to Forza Horizon 6 no longer existing in a couple of years.

Excitement times three
Capcom truly deserve all the plaudits and the unwavering praise they have coming their way. They are working wonders and with Tokyo Game Show on the horizon, I’m more than eager to see what they have to show off. I’ll say that I’m deeply excited for Resident Evil Requiem. The most I actually ever have been for a Resident Evil title.

Village, in my eyes, was a disappointment. Even the most acclaimed section wears off initially and you are left with action sequences taking centre stage. This looks mystically fresh and actually attempting to steer towards a survival horror focus. I’ve the feeling we’ve yet to see more and I’m highly excited to. My pre-order is already locked in.

Pragmata is most intriguing. It’ll also feature at the show, of course. I’ve followed the trail of this action game and to say the least, it’s refreshing. Dragon’s Dogma 2 disappointed many and I’d say that Monster Hunter Wilds is dead in the water, but that’s an understatement. So to say that Pragmata is different, daring, and peaks much curiosity is truly a testament to Capcom’s marketing.

Onimusha is a series I’ve never played a second of. I’d never even heard of it till Capcom announced a remake. So I’m deeply alien to the entire franchise and I’ll be quite frank, it seems as if it’s rather similar to the Nioh franchise. But I’ve never played it, so I don’t know enough to judge. I’m sure it’ll be great to play through.

I’ll state that I’m more excited for Requiem, more than anything else that’s releasing. But everyone feels the same way, more or less. It truly looks tremendous and to see a torn Racoon City, a possible return for Leon Kennedy (my favourite character) is all the more sweet. I only hope Capcom open pre-orders for Pragmata and Requiem, sooner than later. 2026 they may release, but I can’t wait too long. I’m too excited.

GC: Onimusha isn’t a remake, it’s a brand new game. It’s also not a Soulslike.

Will you be reviewing the latest Teenage Mutant Hero-Ninja Turtles game called Tactical Takedown?

Apparently, it was released in May this year (digital-only so far) but I’ve only just heard about it.

GC: It was supposed to be released on Switch earlier in the month, when we were going to review it, but it got delayed at the last minute. It came out yesterday, but I’ll have to go to the back of the queue now, after Gamescom. Also… it hasn’t been Hero Turtles for almost four decades, you’ve got to let it go.

Comeback plan
As people wonder what Nintendo is cooking for next year I think we have to admit the fact that out of the three console manufacturers it’s Xbox that has by far the best line-up at the moment and in terms of games coming out over the next few years.

The irony is that its console sales are almost non-existent but my question is if Xbox does become the most popular third party publisher around, which already kind of is with Call Of Duty and Bethesda, then would they ever consider going back to making consoles and exclusives?

I know they have a next gen console coming out, but I don’t see how that’s going to be anything other than an expensive novelty for hardcore fans.

But if they dominate game sales for a couple of years, as it seems they could, will they try and return back to plan A and take on Sony directly? It would seem very odd to me, if they become the biggest game publisher around and they’re still dependent on the PlayStation brand to actually sell their products.

I know they say they want to do away with game exclusives but surely that’s just them saying that because they’re in the losing position at the moment. I’d like to see them come back strong and give it all another go.

Whatever it is Sony is trying to say (or trying not to say) in that discussion about Concord, it doesn’t sound to me like they’ve learned a thing. How were they not doing ‘group testing’ beforehand? It’s an online shooter, it’s literally impossible not to.

If Lego make a Mega Drive or Dreamcast console I will be there day one. By which I mean I’ll ask for it for Christmas and hope my wife is feeling generous.
