Revealed: Rasmus Hojlund ‘to receive huge pay RISE’ if he chooses to join Serie A giants as Man United’s £72m flop nears decision on his future

Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly in line for a sizeable pay rise should he agree to join Napoli from Manchester United before the transfer deadline.

Hojlund appears destined to leave Man United this month after being left out of the matchday squad for their opening two Premier League matches of the season.

Daily Mail Sport reported last week that Serie A champions Napoli had stepped up their pursuit of Hojlund, following an injury to Romelu Lukaku.

Reports in Italy claim Napoli are now prepared to tempt Hojlund to join by offering the Danish forward a pay increase.

Hojlund is said to be earning around £2.4million a year at Man United, after signing a five-year deal when he joined from Atalanta back in 2023.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Napoli are expected to offer Hojlund £3.9m annually in a bid to get a deal over the line.

The Italian side are reportedly hopeful the increase would be enough to tempt Hojlund to agree to joining the club on an initial loan, with Napoli retaining an option to buy next summer.

Hojlund is said to favour a loan with an obligation to buy, with the forward keen to have his long-term future decided.

It follows Hojlund being informed he will have limited opportunities at Man United this season following the £73million arrival of Benjamin Sesko.

Hojlund, who has scored 26 goals in 95 games for Man United, had previously vowed to fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s decision to leave him out of his squad for the opening two matches of the campaign appears to have led to Hojlund having a change of heart.

Napoli are said to have offered an initial €5million (£4.3m) loan deal to Man United for Hojlund, with the option to make the move permanent for €40m (£34.5m).

The deal would see Man United suffer a sizeable loss on Hojlund, who had joined for £72m.

Scott McTominay reportedly called Hojlund to convince his ex-team-mate to join him at Napoli

Should Hojlund join the club, Napoli will hope he has a similar impact to another former Man United star in Scott McTominay.

McTominay was named Serie A’s most valuable player last season after playing a leading role as Napoli were crowned champions.

The Scotland international reportedly called Hojlund over the weekend to try to convince his team-mate to join Antonio Conte’s side.
