Abxylute, a business best known for its handheld gaming devices, has launched a new line of smartphone controllers. Their latest product, a magnetic snap-on game controller, promises to transform your phone into a portable gaming console without the bulk of standard peripherals.
Abxylute’s controller attaches to the back of your phone using magnets, a design that prioritizes portability. Unlike clunky controllers that sandwich your phone between two grips, this one snaps onto the back and slides out when you’re ready to play. In landscape mode the controller extends below the screen, forming a T shape that echoes the LG Wing phone from a few years back. The controller works seamlessly with MagSafe compatible iPhones, using the built in magnets for a secure fit. For Android users or those with non MagSafe phones, Abxylute includes an adapter to attach a magnetic plate to the back of your device. So it will work with most modern smartphones, but you’ll need to be comfortable adding a magnet to your phone’s case or back.
Powering the controller is a built in battery, rechargeable via USB-C port, so it’s independent of your phone’s power supply. It connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, as shown in the prototype video where it’s functioning as a standalone controller. This wireless freedom means you’re not tethered to your phone by cables, a clean and flexible gaming experience. Abxylute hasn’t shared exact battery life or specs yet but the focus on a self contained power source suggests a design that prioritizes uninterrupted play sessions.
Traditional mobile controllers like GameSir or 8BitDo often mimic console gamepads and require you to slot your phone into a bulky frame. Abxylute’s design collapses into a slim profile that hugs your phone’s back, so it’s less cumbersome to carry. Button layout and joystick quality are still under wraps but the design suggests it will be intuitive.
Availability is set for early October but no pricing yet. Abxylute has a history of devices like the Abxylute One Pro which launched on Kickstarter for $199 early bird, so we expect a competitive price point.
