The long-awaited sequel to the hit metroidvania game Hollow Knight is finally almost here, after a lengthy development period left fans wondering if it would ever be released.

In a new video that just premiered on YouTube, developer Team Cherry announced the release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released on September 4, 2025 — just two weeks away.

The video also confirmed that there would be over 200 enemies to face off against as Hornet, the game’s protagonist who returns from her role as an ally in the first game, as well as over 40 boss fights. It also confirmed new abilities for Hornet not seen in the first game, including a new glide.

The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at launch. Players on PC and Xbox consoles can also play it at no extra cost if they’re Xbox Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscribers.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally announced as a full game in 2019, after having been initially planned to be DLC for the original Hollow Knight. A demo for the game was subsequently playable at a number of events throughout 2019, including at E3 and PAX Australia, but details since then have been sparse, to say the least.

The game was featured in an Xbox presentation in June 2022, with the Xbox Twitter account at the time saying every game featured in the presentation – including Silksong – would be released within 12 months, but it subsequently missed that window. Developers working on the game said that the team had planned on launching the game in early 2023, but that development was still continuing.
