A massive American fast food chain has selected a corner of Kent as the location for its first European venture.
Captain D’s, known for its fried fish and platters, will be opening at Westwood Cross, Broadstairs.

It will be the company’s first restaurant in Europe, joining 535 branches in the USA.
The chain, based in Nashville, Tennessee, first said it wanted to open in the county in March.
Now Westwood Cross has confirmed it is “coming soon” to the shopping centre.
On its website, it states: “Founded in Tennessee in 1969, Captain D’s has grown to over 530 restaurants across the US, thanks to its signature seafood and chicken dishes, great value, and friendly, welcoming service.
“Now, for the first time, UK diners will be able to enjoy their iconic menu – right here in Thanet.”

Previously, Captain D’s said it would set up 20 new locations across the UK following the Kent opening.
This followed a deal to acquire the sites with company CDs Holdings.
At the time, Operations Director Naveed Chattha said: “There is a large fish and chips market in the UK, but no one has tried to apply discipline, standards, and quality to such a level here before.”
It had its sights set on Surrey and Hampshire as the next spots.
An opening date for the venue is yet to be confirmed.
