It’s safe to say that Superman was a major success for the rebooted DC Universe. It might not have reached the financial highs of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but it obliterated it on Rotten Tomatoes and laid a solid foundation for the future of the DC Universe. While the franchise is set to move on to other characters, like Peacemaker, Supergirl, and the Green Lantern Corps, James Gunn is still caught in the world of Clark Kent. The writer/director has already revealed that a Superman sequel is in the works (to the surprise of absolutely no one), but David Corenswet’s DCU future as Superman just received another, far more surprising update from Gunn.
With Peacemaker Season 2 set to release on HBO Max today (August 21), James Gunn is back in the press spotlight, doing the media rounds for the show’s return. GamesRadar+ spoke to Gunn and asked him about David Corenswet’s future as Superman, as well as an old promise about other mediums through which Superman could appear. “We have a couple of little DC games coming out,” Gunn began. “There’s been some slight movement on different things.”
While fans won’t say no to “a couple of little DC games,” we’re all desperate for a fully-fledged Superman video game to give the character something akin to his own Arkham series. According to Gunn, something like that is in the pipeline. “But we also have talked about – and in early stages of planning – some bigger things. One thing in particular I’m excited about, but it does take time. There’s been some changes in Warner Bros. Games, and so we’re dealing with new people.” Most excitingly, Gunn also teased that the Superman found in the upcoming DC games could be voiced by none other than David Corenswet!
What’s Next for James Gunn and the DCU?

As exciting as the prospect of integrated DC Universe video games is, they are several years down the line. If fans get impatient about waiting two-plus years for a movie sequel, they’d better prepare themselves for a video game’s five-year-plus development time. It’s advised that DC Universe fans look to the big and small screen to get their next hit of their favorite superheroes.
The next entry in the rebooted DC Universe, Peacemaker Season 2, is almost here. Season 1 technically isn’t canon anymore, although Season 2 will feature the same characters and have some narrative through-lines from the first season.
Following Peacemaker, Supergirl will be the next DCU project. The movie recently wrapped production, with Milly Alcock starring as Kara Zor-El, following her brief cameo in Superman. The film opens in theaters on June 26, 2026. Following that, DC fans will be heading back to the small screen for the debut season of Lanterns. Starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, the show will finally put the Green Lantern Corps in the spotlight, and hopefully redeem them after the failed Ryan Reynolds movie. Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner will also appear in the show.
