James Maddison has made a big claim about one of his Tottenham teammates, although the England midfielder won’t line up for Spurs again himself until 2026.
From a Tottenham perspective, the headlines over the last two weeks have been dominated by the club’s pursuit of Eberechi Eze, who is expected to become a Spurs player soon.
While there has been a lot said and written about how the Palace star could be a game-changing signing for the Lilywhites, the club did an even more important piece of business a few days ago.
Tottenham managed to tie Romero down to a four-year contract, with the development coming as a major win for the North Londoners, considering the Spurs defender was reportedly keen on joining Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.
Cristian Romero’s Tottenham teammates react to contract news
After putting pen to paper on a new deal, Romero took to social media to describe Spurs as his family and admitted that he adores the Tottenham supporters.
That has led to some great responses from many of his teammates, including his centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, who responded with a heart and smiling emoji.
Dominic Solanke responded to Romero’s post with: “Capitano,” while Maddison simply wrote: “Buzzin! Best centre half in world!”
It is thus very clear from these responses that the Argentine is not just well respected in the Tottenham dressing room, but also a hugely popular figure at the club.
Thomas Frank expects Romero to grow due to the captaincy
The Tottenham head coach admitted that he is delighted to see the defender extend his contract, with Frank backing Romero to grow with the additional leadership responsibility.
According to a report from TBR Football, Frank made it clear while interviewing for the Spurs job that Romero would be his most important player.
The report also explained that the 27-year-old wanted to be convinced of Tottenham’s ambition in the transfer market before agreeing to sign a new deal.
