Luminosity Gaming, the long-standing North American esports organization that claimed a CS:GO Major in 2016, is set to be acquired by gaming and lifestyle company Vertiqal Studios.
Vertiqal Studios has acquired both Luminosity Gaming and Omnia Media from Enthusiast Gaming, a Canadian holding company that also operated franchise teams in both the Overwatch League and the Call of Duty League. Luminosity currently competes in Apex Legends, League of Legends, and PUBG, and also fields one of the most prolific and successful FGC players in Dominique “SonicFox” McLean.
Luminosity was founded in Canada in 2015. Originally, the organization fielded a North American roster after signing the old Mythic core, and even brought in future Liquid stalwart Keith “NAF” Markovic to replace Erik “fl0m” Flom during that year.
But the organization reached new heights when they signed the Brazilian roster of ex-Keyd Stats that included legends of the game in Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Fernando “fer” Alvarenga, and Marcelo “coldzera” David. By the end of 2015 they had paired this trio with Lincoln “fnx” Lau and Epitácio “TACO” de Melo. Together this group claimed the first Major to be held on American soil: MLG Columbus 2016.
The group would leave Luminosity for SK Gaming just months later, and go on to defeat Liquid in the finals of the subsequent Major at ESL One Cologne 2016. Luminosity signed a new roster and remained in the Brazilian scene until 2019, but never again reached the same heights.
The deal is set to be closed on September 5th.
