An annual fireworks display expected to attract hundreds has been cancelled due to high winds.
The family-friendly event was due to take place on Viking Bay in Broadstairs at 9.15pm this evening.

But organisers announced this afternoon that while live music and a funfair will still go ahead, the main display will not go on.
Broadstairs Firework Events said in a public statement: “Regrettably, due to forecasted wind strength and onshore direction, we have no choice but to cancel tonight’s firework display, as ash and smoke fallout from the fireworks would blow over the promenade and bandstand areas.
“However, we are still going ahead with live bandstand music featuring the brilliant Dial from 7pm to 9pm and a funfair on Victoria Gardens from 5.30 pm till late.
“Hot food will be available at Victoria Gardens and from the bandstand cafe.”

It is understood that fireworks will now be taking place at the beach on August 27.
The event is part of a string of displays organised across the summer.
It is not the first time organisers have been forced to cancel due to bad weather – the event was also shelved in July 2023 due to heavy rain.
