The UK’s biggest Mountain Warehouse store will open in one of Kent’s busiest high streets this weekend.
The outdoor clothing retailer will start trading in Canterbury’s former Wilko building on Sunday, August 24.

Its new multi-floor store in St George’s Street is much bigger than the chain’s previous city home, further along the high street.
Signs outside the new location advertise the Mountain Warehouse launch as well as fellow clothing brand Animal, which is owned by the company and will be available throughout the new shop on both floors.
Boasting more than 17,572 square feet of retail space spread across two floors, Mountain Warehouse founder Mark Neale said: “Canterbury has always been a special place for us, and this new store is an exciting step for us as we continue to grow and bring Mountain Warehouse to even more destinations across the country.
“Canterbury is a great city with a strong sense of community, and we’re looking forward to sharing our passion for adventure with residents and visitors alike.
“Sometimes, adventure is right on your doorstep – whether it’s the school run, pitching a tent at a festival, or getting caught in the rain, we’re here for all of it.”
The new store opening has created 12 new jobs in the area.

Nearby, three new businesses are preparing to open at Whitefriars shopping centre.
Clothing brand Urban Outfitters is in the process of moving into the former Deichmann unit, which is set to close this month, with a view to welcoming customers in October.
Meanwhile, the former HMV store a few doors down is being split into two shopfronts.
Cosmetics, skincare and beauty brand, Space NK, will occupy one half, while kitchenware shop, ProCook, will take the other – both are due to open in November.
