The next two weeks of August could see major updates in the video game industry. Two of the biggest gaming events of the year, Gamescom in Germany and PAX West in the United States, are happening back-to-back!
Whether you’re a fan of AAA big-budget games or smaller, more creative indie titles, chances are, there is something for everyone to look forward to as a gamer.
First up is Gamescom, which will take place from August 18 to 24 in Cologne, Germany. This event is known for its huge announcements, and this year is expected to be no different.
The public-facing part of the event will kick off with Opening Night Live on August 19, a live-streamed event that will feature the first look at some of the most anticipated games. We’re expecting to see the official reveal of the next Call of Duty game, Black Ops 7, and new trailers for The Outer Worlds 2 and Ninja Gaiden 4.
Microsoft’s gaming arm Xbox, currently battling a wave of recent layoffs, will also have a massive presence at Gamescom. So, gear up for a bunch of games for their Xbox consoles and PC. One of the biggest highlights will be the chance for people at the event to play Ninja Gaiden 4 for the very first time.
Other big games that will be at the Xbox booth include the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, Borderlands 4, and a remake of the classic Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Blizzard is also expected to be at Gamescom to show off the next chapter in the World of Warcraft saga with their expansion, Midnight. Gamers are reportedly getting to try out the new player housing feature, which will let them build and decorate their own homes in the game.
Right after Gamescom, the gaming buzz will move to the US with PAX West, scheduled in Seattle, Washington, from August 29 to September 1. PAX West is more focused on the community, giving fans a chance to play upcoming games. Big names like Nintendo, Square Enix, and Capcom are expected to be there, so we can expect to see some exciting new title reveals from them.

Bandai Namco has already announced a long list of games that will be playable at their PAX West booth, including the spooky adventure game Little Nightmares III and the action-packed My Hero Academia: All’s Justice!, based on the anime.
Square Enix will also be hosting several talks about their popular Final Fantasy series, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at how these beloved games are made.
Something that sets PAX West apart is that it’s not just about video games. There will also be a large section dedicated to tabletop games, so board gamers and card gamers will have plenty to do as well.
