The Missouri Gaming Commission has awarded the state’s two sports betting licenses.
The licenses will go to Circa Hospitality Group I, LLC and to DK Crown Holdings, Inc., which operates the platform DraftKings. BetFair Interactive US LLC, which operates as FanDuel, was also vying for one of the two licenses but lost out.
In a statement, Gaming Commission Chair Jan Zimmerman said it was a “difficult decision”, but the commission only had two untethered licenses to grant. Untethered refers to gaming licenses granted to mobile sports books without a brick-and-mortar home. Other sports books licenses to be awarded would go to casinos and to professional sports franchises based in Missouri.
The process is not complete, though. The statement also said, “further investigatory measures will follow for DK Crown Holdings, Inc. and Circa Hospitality Group I, LLC.”
Despite Friday’s rejection, there might be a slimmer of hope for FanDuel: “For all other Retail and Mobile Licenses, completed applications must be received by September 12, 2025, if the applicant wishes to offer sports wagering.”
Legal sports betting is set to begin in Missouri on December 1.
