Introduction

With all eyes on AMD at the moment, it’s a shame that Mini-ITX motherboards that would previously have drawn crowds and housed popular Intel CPUs are selling in far fewer numbers and are often overlooked. Like its Socket AM5 800-series chipset lineup, ASUS also has a pair of boards for LGA1851 too, and we’re looking at the cheaper option here today in the form of the ROG Strix B860-I Gaming Wi-Fi.
At $220, it sits close to the competition from ASRock, Gigabyte and MSI as far as their premium B860 options go, while if you want overclocking support, you’ll have to stump up considerably more for any Z890 options within the Mini-ITX form factor, with barely any change from $300 even for ASRock’s Z890I Nova Wi-Fi. If you’re happy with a locked CPU multiplier however, then the ROG Strix B860-I Gaming Wi-Fi seems to tick a lot of boxes on paper, can it compete well with the competition?

Those features include Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, PCIe Gen 5 M.2 and GPU support, and it even has a total of 14 power phases cooled by a large heatpipe-equipped heatsink. As we already know, ASUS also does well when it comes to the EFI. Do its features and polished, extensive overall package mean it’s the best option for small form factor fans wanting a Core Ultra 200 CPU?
