Microsoft’s Gaming Copilot Launches in Beta on PC

Microsoft Gaming Copilot PC

Microsoft’s new Gaming Copilot, which first became available on the beta version of the Xbox mobile app, is coming to PC today. Xbox Insiders enrolled in the PC Gaming Preview can get early access to the assistant via the Game Bar. Microsoft is also working to optimize its new Gaming Copilot for gaming handhelds.

The mobile version of Gaming Copilot within the Xbox app currently works as a second-screen experience. However, grabbing your phone to access Copilot when your hands are already busy is far from ideal, and the Xbox team knows it.

By integrating the assistant directly into the PC Game Bar, Microsoft makes it possible to keep Gaming Copilot pinned on the screen at all times. Xbox Insiders can chat with the assistant or use their voice to interact with it hands-free. Copilot can also use gameplay screenshots to make its responses more relevant.

“Gaming Copilot knows what you’re playing and understands your Xbox activity to provide an experience centered around you,” the Xbox team explained. “Now that Gaming Copilot has a better understanding of what’s happening on your screen during active gameplay and through your screenshots, you can refer to things happening in-game as they occur in Voice Mode, without needing to describe them in detail, and get even more relevant and timely support.”

Gaming Copilot is available as a Game Bar widget for Xbox Insiders on PC in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, and a couple of other regions. The assistant is currently only available in English for Insiders aged 18 and older, and Microsoft plans to improve it with “deeper personalization” and “proactive coaching” in the near future.
