Joao Palhinha has made a bold statement about his ambitions for the upcoming season in his first interview as a Tottenham Hotspur player.
Palhinha has joined Tottenham on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for €30m (£26m), becoming the fourth player to arrive through the door at Hotspur Way this summer.
The expectation at Spurs is that Palhinha will be a regular in the starting eleven and be able to hit the ground running at the club.
The fact that he arrives at N17 with plenty of Premier League experience under his belt should help him in that regard, and the 30-year-old has now revealed what he aims to do on his return to London.
Joao Palhinha wants to win titles at Tottenham
Thomas Frank has made it clear that Tottenham’s aim is to compete in all four competitions, with the Dane hopeful of building on Ange Postecoglou’s Europa League win last season.
Palhinha believes that he can win titles in North London during the upcoming season, given the quality Spurs have across their squad.
When asked what his ambitions are at the club, the midfielder said to Tottenham’s official channel: “Personally, I just want to play, to show again what I am capable of doing here in the Premier League and at this top club. As a collective, as a team, I just want to try to win titles.
“I think that we have all the potential here to do something really special. Of course, it’s not easy, we all know that this is the most competitive league in the world, but with all the potential that we have in the team, I’m really motivated to try to achieve some really good things for this club.”
Why Spurs opted for a loan deal for Palhinha
Spurs Web previously relayed reports that Bayern Munich were ready to sell Joao Palhinha permanently to Tottenham, but the Premier League side preferred a temporary deal.
According to some sources, Tottenham opted for a loan deal for Palhinha to have more flexibility to spend funds elsewhere.
It has been claimed that Thomas Frank’s men are prioritising signing another forward and an attacking midfielder while also wanting to bolster their options at full-back.
