Step back to the ‘50s for a weekend of vintage vibes

Crowds can soak up the vintage vibes as a rock ‘n’ roll festival returns for its fourth year.

The Kent ‘50s Festival is back for a weekend of live music, classic cars and retro fashion, all in the heart of Sandwich.

The family-friendly festival, organised by Killertone Records, celebrates the decade with a toe-tapping line-up of old-school musicians, starting with a string of ticketed events at St Mary’s Arts Centre.

The venue will host Miss Holiday and the Swingtones, Jackson Sloane, Sonny West, the Back Beat Jivers, Lew Lewis and his All Stars, Si Cranstoun, and The Deltas over the weekend.

There will also be a classic car show at Sandwich Quay, accompanied by a handful of outdoor live performances from The Accidents and Phil Haley and his Comments.

Sticking with the throwback theme, festival-goers can enjoy the vintage market, 1950s DJs, dance competitions, street food, bars and an Eddie Cochran exhibition featuring photos and memorabilia from the musician’s life and career.

Sonny West from Killertone Records said: “Kent ‘50s Festival is more than just a music event – it’s a full-blown celebration of an iconic era. Each year, it brings together fans of vintage music, fashion, and motoring for a weekend they won’t forget.”

The Kent ‘50s Festival takes place at venues in and around Sandwich from Friday, August 8 to Sunday, August 10.

Many of the festival’s events and performances are free to attend, but visitors can book tickets to the live shows at St Mary’s Arts Centre online here.

Tickets are £35 for a day or £60 for both days.
