As technology has advanced over the years, video games have become the dominant gaming platform. Cities in Texas have seen a major decrease in ways to play board games, even though there are plenty of flat-top gamers still left out there.

Board game stores have begun to dwindle in Amarillo, and rumor has it that the ones left aren’t the most inviting when it comes to hosting board game nights.

A New Place In Canyon

Not long ago, the new Tabletop Tavern Game Cafe opened up in Canyon, and it has quickly become a go-to for many. It’s a rare place for those who enjoy a good board game to be able to gather and play their favorite games.

They even serve up beer, which is a huge plus. A downside to it is that it’ll cost you $8 to play there, but that’s an all-day fee, so in the grand scheme of things, it’s really not a bad thing. However, many remember when it would be free to pop in and play some games.

Enter Bomb City Gaming Club

New to the scene is the Bomb City Gaming Club. They don’t have a set location or anything, but they’re all about bringing back the community part of board games by organizing full-day gatherings where players can enjoy games together.

The best part? No fees, no cliques, nothing like that. Just like-minded people gathering to play some games and make some new friends.

When Is Their Next Event

It’s going to be a big one, as they’re taking over the Southwest Public Library all day Saturday, September 6th, for people to gather up and play. There will be dozens of tables where you can sit down and play a game, demos of various war games, a miniature painting station where you can do some painting of your mini figures and learn from local artists, and so much more.

There will be raffles and contests as well, so you could even walk out a winner. They also do different monthly things within the club, so it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a game community to be a part of!
