Josh Keeley has revealed what the feeling was at Tottenham in the early days of Thomas Frank’s reign prior to his switch to Luton Town, and Spurs fans will love the goalkeeper’s statement.
There were reports that many Spurs players were left angered by Ange Postecoglou’s sacking after the Australian had led the club to European glory.
Many had thus anticipated that Thomas Frank would have his work cut out to win over the players. However, based on the enthusiasm at Hotspur Way, it appears that the Dane and the coaching staff are on their way to doing just that.
While results will ultimately dictate whether the players and fans take to Frank, there is a sense of anticipation building at the club for the new era.
Josh Keeley says Tottenham players want to play for Thomas Frank
Frank has set his sights on competing in all four competitions, but as a prerequisite, he would need his players to buy into his methods completely.
Keeley, who was training at Hotspur Way until his move to Luton a week and a half ago, has now revealed that the players are keen to play for the 51-year-old and predicted an exciting season ahead for his former side.
When asked what his first impressions of Frank were, the goalkeeper told Football.London: “I trained with the team for the whole two weeks when I was there and the boys look like they want to play for him.
“It looks like a very exciting year and the foreseeable future for Thomas Frank and the rest of the squad. I wish them all the best of luck, and I think they’ll do really well.”
Keeley admits he learned a lot from Spurs teammates and staff
Keeley’s sale to Luton surprised some Spurs fans, who had expected the Irishman to push for a first-team spot at N17.
The 22-year-old left Tottenham Hotspur without a single first-team appearance to his name, but he admits that the players and coaches he worked with at Hotspur Way have made invaluable contributions to his game.
When asked what he takes from his time at Spurs, Keely said: “I mean there are little things you take from obviously Vicario, Hugo and Fraser as well, he is a very experienced goalie and Dean [Brill, former Spurs academy coach and now first team assistant goalkeeper coach] has played in the game an awful long time.
“Then there is Fabio [Otte, Spurs new goalkeeper coach] who has just come in, he is a top, top goalie coach and won many trophies at his previous clubs. You always take little bits from people and try to engrain them into myself to take on further in my career.”
