A weekend of gaming, basketball and community is headed to York City at the end of August.
The Game On Experience will be held at Voni Grimes Gym, 125 E. College Ave., on Aug. 30 and 31. It’s promoted as “a two-day celebration of competition, community, and culture — powered by purpose, passion, and play,” according to a press release from York City Parks and Recreation.
The first day will feature an NBA 2K25 tournament. Organizers say top gamers will compete in a live showdown with prize brackets, giveaways and crowd interaction.
Basketball tournaments will run both days and include three divisions: adult, high school and one for athletes under 6 feet tall. According to the release, the courts will be “fueled with energy from music, hosts, vendors, and an electric vibe that brings the city together.”
Proceeds from the event will go to Code Name: BEAST Initiative and BYC Raiders Basketball, two local programs focused on youth development and mentorship.
Organizers are seeking support from businesses and individuals through sponsorships or donations. Requested items include gift cards, gaming systems, TVs, snacks, apparel and merchandise. People can also donate money or volunteer their time. Sponsors will receive local exposure through digital and physical signage and brand mentions throughout the event.
