Thomas Frank trials Tottenham midfielder in number 10 role after Morgan Gibbs-White snub

Thomas Frank has turned to one of Tottenham’s standout players from last season as the temporary solution to Tottenham’s failed Morgan Gibbs-White transfer pursuit.

Several areas of the Tottenham Hotspur team need strengthening ahead of the new season, and one of such is the number ten position.

Tottenham have James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski as their main options in that position, but both players are injury-prone and tend to miss games throughout a season.

As a result, one of Tottenham’s priority signings of this summer window is to strengthen their depth in the ten position, with an offer for Morgan Gibbs-White being made.

However, the Lilywhites ultimately missed out on the Nottingham Forest man, as he has put pen to paper on a new deal at the City Ground.

Thomas Frank trials Lucas Bergvall in advanced midfield role for Tottenham

Football.london has now spotted what Thomas Frank did in training ahead of the north London derby clash against Arsenal.

The Danish manager was seen getting creative in training as he looks to find a solution to Tottenham’s lack of depth in the number ten position, with Lucas Bergvall given a run in that role.

Bergvall won three prestigious Tottenham awards in his first season, marking a standout debut campaign for the youngster, which also saw him secure a new contract.

His versatility was key to Tottenham last term, as the young Swede was deployed as a number eight and occasionally as a holding midfielder, often filling in for an out-of-form Yves Bissouma.

However, with Tottenham not managing to complete the signing of a number ten before flying to Asia, Frank now has to make do with what he has.

Spurs midfield injuries force Frank into tactical reshuffle

James Maddison is back on the training pitch, but Thomas Frank has since revealed that it remains touch-and-go with the Englishman.

Dejan Kulusevski is still sidelined after picking up a serious knee injury that had him undergo surgery on his patella – a setback expected to keep him out until spring.

Tottenham are said to have drawn up a list of alternative targets after they missed out on Gibbs-White, but time is ticking as there are now just two weeks left before the new Premier League season kicks off.

With James Maddison still working his way back to full fitness and Dejan Kulusevski not making the trip to Asia this summer, Tottenham fans could expect Lucas Bergvall to be given a run in the attacking midfield role when Spurs take on Arsenal at the Kai Tak Sports Park later today.
