Investigation underway after factory break-in causes ‘significant damage’

An investigation is underway after a factory suffered a temporary shutdown due to a break-in that caused significant damage to its Kent site.

Flambeau Europe, which supplies plastic parts for customers internationally, in Manston Road, Ramsgate, was targeted by thieves looting vending machines, stealing power tools and stripping copper from the power supply to manufacturing machines.

Bosses at the company, which has been based in the town for 50 years, say the break-in, which happened last weekend, effectively shut down the site and put 70 local jobs at risk.

The site is currently operating in “limited production” after managing to get three machines back online.

In a statement, Flambeau Europe said: “The individuals responsible caused significant damage, ranging from minor vandalism to much more serious and targeted theft.

“When this theft happened, it left our business unable to produce parts that we supply to our customers, effectively shutting us down and putting 70 local jobs at risk.

“Our operations and facilities teams are working tirelessly to get our machines back online.

“This incident has dealt a major blow to our business. We are deeply aware of how this disruption affects our employees, customers, and the wider community that depends on our continued operation.

“We would like to express our gratitude in advance to our associates, customers, suppliers, and the local community for their patience, understanding, and ongoing support during this time.”

Police were called on Monday, July 28, and have confirmed an investigation remains ongoing.
