Ayaneo has confirmed that it is moving into the world of smartphones. By the looks of things, the eponymous Ayaneo Phone will mark a return to the sliding form factor that Sony Ericsson pioneered over 14 years ago with the Xperia Play.
Ayaneo has announced numerous devices this week as part of its extended product sharing session. On the one hand, the company has sought to rival GPD with the AMD Strix Halo-powered Next 2. On the other hand, it has also expanded its Android and budget offerings with a slew of new gaming handhelds.
The company has not stopped there, though. In fact, Ayaneo has decided to dip its toes into the world of smartphones with the eponymous Ayaneo Phone. On the face of it, the Ayaneo Phone appears to be a throwback to the form factor pioneered by the Xperia Play over 14 years ago. As a result, the Ayaneo Phone may end up rivalling the Anbernic RG Slide (curr. $249.99 on Amazon) for those who are after a sliding gaming handheld.
However, Ayaneo will go a step further than Anbernic by adding components necessary to create a smartphone rather than a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi only gaming handheld. At this stage, Ayaneo has not revealed any hardware specifications. Nonetheless, it has firmly billed the Ayaneo Phone as a gaming smartphone rather than a regular smartphone upon which one can play games. Please see the video below for more details.
