Thomas Frank has spoken about how Tottenham will be different tactically than they were for the last two seasons and about wanting to build on Ange Postecoglou’s legacy at the North London club.
While there was an outpouring of emotions from Spurs fans after Postecoglou’s sacking, now that the dust has settled, most supporters would understand why Daniel Levy and co decided to make a managerial change despite the Australian ending the club’s trophy drought.
Tottenham had their worst-ever season in the Premier League, and while injuries were a mitigating factor, the results in the league had shown a consistent downward trend in Postecoglou’s final 18 months.
Frank will be expected to push Spurs up the table and get them back into the top six, where a club of this size belong, and the Dane has confessed he will do one thing very differently to his predecessor.
Thomas Frank wants to build on the foundation Ange Postecoglou laid
The 51-year-old has once again congratulated Postecoglou for bringing European success to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and admitted that he is excited to build on those foundations.
However, he remarked that we will see Spurs play with ‘more balance’, which he feels is important if the Lilywhites want to challenge the best teams consistently.
When asked about taking over from a manager who delivered European success at Tottenham, Frank told Men in Blazers: “First and foremost, I think it’s important to say that Ange and his staff achieved massively by winning the Europa League title. Fantastic.
“First time in 41 years, a European title. I love that. I thought it was a lot of good things that I can use, and I can, you know, stand on that foundation and then build from there.
“What I like to add is probably a bit more balance in my view. Attacking, defending. And then, of course, I think if you want to achieve something big, we need to be good in all phases of the game.”
Frank has a clear objective for his first season at Tottenham
While some might feel that the former Brentford boss is under pressure, given that he is taking over from a side which lifted their first European trophy after four decades.
However, Thomas Frank has said that he wants Tottenham to achieve something they have not done since 2019, which is to compete in four competitions.
There is no doubt that he would need a large squad to do that, with Spurs still having a lot of work to do in the transfer window.
