Techland pushes Dying Light: The Beast to September for final polish

Techland has announced a slight delay for its upcoming zombie-fighting parkour title, Dying Light: The Beast. Originally slated for an August 11 release, the game will now launch on September 19, 2025. This decision, conveyed in a press release, aims to provide the development team with crucial extra time for “extra polishing” before the game reaches players.

The delay comes despite overwhelmingly positive hands-on previews of the game’s initial hours, which were published earlier this week. Critics and content creators universally praised their experiences, with Techland itself acknowledging the “universally positive” YouTube coverage. You can even read our preview here, and check out our interview with director Tymon Smektała just below. However, it appears the developers identified areas for improvement that warranted the additional four weeks of development.

Focused improvements for a better game

Techland outlined specific aspects they plan to enhance during this extended development period. Players can anticipate improvements in the clarity of the User Interface (UI), which will streamline navigation and information display. Furthermore, the team is dedicated to boosting the quality of in-game physics, promising a more realistic and impactful experience as players engage with the environment and enemies. Tweaks to cutscenes and player animations are also on the agenda, aiming for more fluid and immersive storytelling and character movement. The developers also mentioned finetuning the balance of gameplay elements and adding last-minute details to ensure a comprehensive and polished final product.

Dying Light: The Beast began its journey as a major DLC for 2022’s Dying Light 2: Stay Human. However, due to enthusiastic fan leaks that revealed extensive details about the project, Techland re-evaluated its scope. This led to the ambitious decision to transform it into a standalone game, bringing back the beloved protagonist from the original 2015 Dying Light, Kyle Crane. In The Beast, Crane returns as a super-human, half-beast hybrid, a result of ten years of grueling experimentation, promising a fresh and powerful take on his character.
