MindsEye Is No Longer The Worst Game Of 2025, And It’s Not Even Close

MindsEye was a strong contender for worst video game of the year, but a new 2025 title has trashed it in terms of poor user scores, which is a huge shame, as it’s based on one of the most popular and beloved anime and manga franchises of all time.

MindsEye has faced harsh criticism since its launch, due to nearly every aspect of the game, from its paper-thin story to its abysmal performance. And then there are the controversies that happened before the game even came out, with executives leaving the week before launch.

It turns out that MindsEye isn’t actually the most disliked game of the year, at least based on Metacritic user ratings. According to The Gamer, MindsEye’s 2.4 user score of 2.4 has been toppled by Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, which has a user score of 1.6.

Hunter X Hunter: Nen X Impact Isn’t Winning Over Fans

Hunter x Hunter: Nen X Impact is a 3v3 fighting game based on the long-running anime/manga series. Fans had been wary of the game since before launch, due to its low-quality visuals, but it was the post-launch netcode issues that dragged its name through the mud.

The launch version of Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact has also been criticized for its short story mode and small roster, especially since the source material features numerous characters that can be utilized.

It’s not too surprising to see MindsEye taken over in negative reception, even if it’s saddening that it’s from a game connected to a series loved by many. MindsEye is a new property, which means it’s a failure in a bubble, but this new Hunter x Hunter game is going to leave a bad stain on the franchise’s reputation and will harm the chances of future video game adaptations being made further down the line.
