Tottenham set to rip up transfer policy after huge Joao Palhinha development

Tottenham Hotspur have now reportedly begun work on tying up a deal for Joao Palhinha, and a new report has made a big claim about Spurs’ chances of clinching the experienced midfielder.

Over recent days, various outlets have claimed that Thomas Frank is extremely keen on bringing Palhinha to Tottenham, with the Dane seeing the Bayern Munich star as a natural fit for his system.

However, a deal for the Portugal international is made complicated by the fact that Palhinha wants to stay and fight for his place at Bayern.

Additionally, some sources have claimed that Spurs may face competition from their Premier League rivals for Palhinha, but it now appears that the Lilywhites are emerging as the front-runners to win the race for the 30-year-old.

There is a strong possibility of Joao Palhinha ending up at Tottenham

The Telegraph have revealed that work is underway at Spurs over striking a deal with Bayern Munich for the transfer of the former Fulham man.

The report says many sources around Europe believe that there is ‘a strong possibility’ that Palhinha will end up as a Tottenham player this summer.

However, the outlet claims that a deal for the 30-year-old is not expected to be finalised until Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Asia begins.

This is because Thomas Frank’s men first want to offload a midfielder before bringing Palhinha in, with Yves Bissouma being the most likely player to make way for the Bayern man.

Palhinha signing would be an eight-year first for Spurs

The Telegraph points out that landing Palhinha will represent a significant change in Tottenham’s transfer policy, given that the club have prioritised signing younger players with high resale value over recent years.

In fact, it is revealed that the last time the Spurs signed a player who was 30 or older was all the way back in 2017, when they secured Fernando Llorente from Swansea.

The report adds that there is an acceptance at Tottenham Hotspur this summer that the squad needs more experience and leadership, with the former Fulham man seen as someone who can provide that.
