Forza Horizon 5 is currently the best-selling game available on PlayStation 5 in 2025 according to analyst Rhys Elliott. After releasing on the platform in late April, the game, which has been largely lauded as one of the best racing series of all time on Xbox, has taken over on the PlayStation side as well. It has sold over three million copies on PS5 and overtook Monster Hunter Wilds on the platform for the top spot. To add on to that, the game has sold 6.5 million on Steam, and while we don’t know the sales numbers on Xbox, 45.5 million have played with Game Pass. Breaking news, Forza Horizon 5 is popular.
How is Forza Horizon 5 the Best-Selling PS5 Game?
There are several factors that contribute to Forza Horizon 5 being the top seller on PlayStation 5 this year. First, the lack of PlayStation titles this year likely plays a big impact here. While Death Stranding 2 is published by Sony, it’s the only large game from PlayStation this year until Ghost of Yotei releases in early October. Other than that, only MLB The Show 25 has come from Sony, which is popular, but not nearly a headlining name.
Sales have also helped Forza Horizon 5 jump to the top. While the game is usually at $60 (US), it has also been on sale on PS5, which has brought in more people. With Gran Turismo not having a new game, racing fans only have the Xbox-made game to look to for something new. That isn’t to say one is necessarily better than the other, but, to the PlayStation audience, Forza is new and shiny, which will have more eyes on it.
While many Xbox fanboys haven’t liked the company releasing their games on other platforms for years now, the numbers seem to imply the move has been very successful. We don’t expect Forza Horizon 5 to remain the highest-selling game on PS5 at the end of the year, but holding the spot in late July is something that would have seemed crazy if you told it to anyone a few years ago.Â
Last year, Sea of Thieves saw a massive jump on PS5 as well, and we expect Gears of War: Reloaded to have a similar reception on the console as well. At this point, Xbox putting their games on PlayStation is just a foregone conclusion, but the successful sales point to it being the right move.
