Tottenham’s decision makers are of the opinion that a former Premier League star would be the ideal fit for Thomas Frank’s midfield, but they are not willing to meet the asking price for the player at the moment.
Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that an increasing number of reports have claimed over the last few weeks that Tottenham are keen on signing a top-class number six.
Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha is one of the options on Spurs’ radar after the Portugal international struggled for game time at the Allianz Arena last season.
Over the weekend, it emerged that Tottenham had started fresh talks with Bayern over Palhinha, who is keen to return to the Premier League.
Tottenham see Joao Palhinha as a perfect fit, but there is one stumbling block
TBR Football have now asserted that the feeling at Hotspur Way is that the Portugal international would be the ideal number six for Thomas Frank’s system.
It is revealed that Bayern are willing to sell Palhinha for £30m, but Tottenham are hesitant to meet that asking price.
Spurs want to do a deal for £20m as the midfielder wants a three-year contract as a minimum, despite turning 30 earlier this month.
However, the outlet explains that agreeing personal terms is not expected to be an issue for Tottenham, who have held talks with Palhinha’s camp over a move to N17.
Who are the other defensive midfielders Tottenham are considering?
According to reports, Tottenham are also considering a move for Douglas Luiz, who wants to leave Juventus to return to the Premier League.
Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed recently that Wolves’ Joao Gomes and Mainz star Kaishu Sanoa are also on Spurs’ radar.
Some publications claim that Thomas Frank’s men have not ruled out an audacious move for Adam Wharton, while reports also continue to suggest that Conor Gallagher is on Tottenham’s wishlist.
