Atari and Namco have joined forces once again to offer fans a collector’s item that pays tribute to one of the most iconic characters in the history of video games. On the occasion of Pac-Man’s 45th anniversary, both companies, together with Plaion, announced a special edition of the Atari 2600+ console, completely redesigned with a Pac-Man theme.
Instead of the traditional wood finish, the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition features a vibrant yellow color that immediately references the character. The body of the console is adorned with a backlit illustration of Pac-Man alongside his iconic enemies: Blinky, Inky, Pinky and Clyde. In addition, the top features a cartridge slot and controls in the same yellow tone, completing its unique aesthetic.
Pricing, content and availability
The Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition will be available for pre-sale beginning July 23, 2025. It will be priced at $169.99. The package will include the console, a CX-40 wireless joystick and the “Pac-Man Double Feature” cartridge, which contains both the classic Pac-Man 2600 (1982) and a new arcade-style version for the Atari 7800.
During San Diego Comic-Con, Atari will distribute 1,000 exclusive Golden Box Editions of Pac-Man: Double Feature. Each $99.99 collector’s set includes a 2-in-1 cartridge in one of five ghost or Pac-Man colors (red, blue, pink, orange or yellow), plus a limited-edition patch and pin. The CX40+ Wireless Joystick in 5 colors to represent Pac-Man, Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Clyde. The joysticks cost $39.99 each.
Originally released in 2023, the Atari 2600+ is a modern version of the console that marked an entire generation in the 70s and 80s. This new special edition retains updated features such as HDMI output, USB power and multi-resolution support, but what truly sets it apart is its bold, nostalgic design.
Plaion, the manufacturer in charge of the special edition, assures that this console is not only an entertainment device, but also “it’s a tribute to the moment home gaming truly began. By reimagining the iconic hardware in PAC-MAN’s unmistakable style, we’re celebrating the legacy of two cultural giants who helped define a generation of play.”
