MechLands Vibe99 Wireless Gaming Keyboard Review: This Thing Has Its Own Vibe

Well, I have realized that I am getting more fond of reviewing gaming keyboards, and I have a really exciting product at my desk. Now, MechLands isn’t as mainstream as some of its competitors, but they have come up with really awesome keyboards, one of which is the Vibe99, which is claimed to be one of the most impressive budget-oriented option by the company, so let’s take a look into it.

This is the first time I have come across a TFT screen on a keyboard, and while I’ll try to keep my biases aside, this thing looks amazing when I saw it for the first time. More importantly, the Vibe99 is one of the more top-contending options if you are looking for a 1800-layout keyboard, that matches your budget, offers you a great typing experience, and most of all, comes with a different vibe.

Since this was a first time unboxing a relatively newer vendor for me, I had to analyze the packaging in more detail. The keyboard’s packaging features a rather creative look at the front with abstract designs, along with the brand’s logo and the layout of the keyboard, which shows that packaging was well thought out. The box gave out a good impression on what’s inside, so it was definitely exciting to look further ahead.

The box inside contained the Vibe99 keyboard and the standard accessories, including a Type-C cable, 2.4GHz USB dongle, and manual. There weren’t any replacement switches inside, and that’s something that I did feel deprived of, considering that with the Epomaker’s keyboards I have been reviewing extensively, it is a set standard from them. But overall, the packaging experience was solid, and on par with what you would expect in this budget segment.

I am not much of a fan of full-sized keyboards, particularly since my desk usually has 75% layouts, but with the Vibe99, there was something different. The keyboard strikes an elegant feeling at first glance, and my unit came with the Blue and White color scheme, which was pretty interesting. MechLands utilized three different shades of blue across the keyboard layout, along with white ones, and there wasn’t a consistent pattern of color distribution, implying that this design was well thought out.

Apart from the color scheme, another interesting element about the Vibe99 was the RGB layout, and how the lightning on this device is another great point. The illumination comes from the bottom of the keycaps, and it doesn’t light up the keycaps themselves; rather, it lights up their sides, creating a solid effect. However, in darker environments, it does become a bit difficult to read the keycaps, especially if you don’t have a strong muscle memory, but yet again, the RGB element is something that appears to be exclusive to MechLand’s keyboards.

Well, about the TFT screen, it measures 1.06 inches and is controllable through the keyboard’s drivers, which you can access here. However, I really didn’t see much functionality with it, except for maybe putting up customized GIFs. Since most users out there don’t look at their keyboards while typing, opting for the Vibe99 just because of the screen doesn’t make sense, at least for me.

MechLands Vibe99 Keyboard – Cream Mint Switch Switches & Typing Experience

Well, manufacturers are resorting to native switches, and it seems MechLands has done something similar, with their Cream Mint switches. It is a 5-pin linear switch that offers a 45gf operation force. The switch type is identical to what you get in keyboards in this segment, such as the Epomaker Jade switches, but in terms of the typing experience, they certainly get the job done, to say the least. The keyboard’s dampening methods give out a sound that is pleasant to the ears and isn’t clickily at all.

Speaking of dampening, the Vibe99 utilizes a gasket-mounted structure, with several layers of internal padding that include a PORON Sandwich foam, an IXPE switch pad, PET film, Poron PCB foam, and a bottom silicone pad, which gives out a unique, satisfying typing experience. Finely-tuned stabilizers on the keyboard ensure that the keyboard performs on par with expectations under stress gaming conditions, making each keypress smooth, consistent, and noise-free.

Like many of the other mainstream keyboards, the Vibe99 utilizes the Double-shot PBT keycaps, and their aesthetical appeal is what makes them a standing out option, especially with the color scheme of our particular unit.
