‘Generational talent’ – Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid announces himself with goal and assist within eight minutes of debut

The 18-year-old finally linked up with the north London club earlier this month after his move from Hajduk Split was agreed in 2023.

With the deal worth up to £12million being agreed while Vuskovic was still just 16-years-old, Spurs were clearly convinced of his potential.

And it didn’t take long for the teenager to repay their faith in him after he was introduced as a half-time substitute.

Within just four minutes of coming on, Vuskovic rose highest to flick on fellow new boy Mohamed Kudus‘ corner into the path of Will Lankshear to head home.

But the best was still to come from the Croatian, as he turned goalscorer just minutes later.

Kudus was involved again, as he cut the ball back to Vuskovic, who picked out the bottom corner with a smart finish.

As well as demonstrating his goalscoring threat, the centre-back showcased his defensive prowess, making a vital block to deny Andre Garcia and keep Spurs’ clean sheet in tact.

And his display certainly left an impression on Tottenham’s fans, with many flocking online to share their approval.

One excitedly wrote on X: “An assist, a goal and a goal line clearance in ten minutes, Vuskovic is a generational talent.”

Another added: “Luka Vuskovic came on in the second half and led the way. An assist and a goal in his first seven minutes in a Spurs kit.

“I know it was only Reading but you can see it. No loan needed. He’s ready. Instant impact.”

A third added: “Not getting ahead of myself after just eight minutes of watching him, but Vuskovic is going to the best centre-back in the world.”

Meanwhile another commented: “Vuskovic. The league will be in trouble.”

Vuskovic himself shared just how much he had enjoyed his dream debut, in an interview with the club afterwards.

After being reminded of his display, he said: “I’m very happy with those stats, and I’m more happy that we won the game with a clean sheet, and we just need to continue to build this.”

The youngster was also quick to praise Tottenham for helping him to settle in quickly, while he also gave a special mention to Guglielmo Vicario and Micky Van de Ven.

He said: “Now everything is perfect, the club is behind me, the players, the staff, the coach, everyone is happy with me, and I’m really happy now.”

On the match, Vuskovic added: “[Having] Vicario and Van de Ven besides me, it was a really amazing experience, and I hope it will continue.”

Vuskovic will certainly be looking to learn as much as he can from the more experienced members of Spurs’ backline.

Despite starting his career at Hajduk Split, the starlet has spent the last two seasons on loan away from his first club.

He was loaned out to Polish side Radomiak Radom in the 2023/24 campaign, while last season he played for Belgian Pro League outfit Westerlo.

His goalscoring ability was on show again, as he scored seven times in 36 games, including an incredible bicycle kick against Club Brugge that went viral in December.

Having impressed on his first Spurs outing, Vuskovic will now look to continue his upwards trajectory over pre-season, as he targets a starting berth.

New boss Frank can win his first silverware with the club when they meet Paris Saint-Germain in the Super Cup final on August 13, before their Premier League opener against Burnley three days later.
