Tottenham half-time ratings vs Reading – 6/10 for Europa League hero

Here’s how we rated the Tottenham Hotspur players following the opening forty-five minutes of action in today’s pre-season friendly against Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Thomas Frank has named his first starting lineup as Tottenham boss, with his side facing Reading this afternoon.

We have now sat down to analyse the performance of every Spurs player throughout the first half, giving them a rating between 1 and 10.

Tottenham half-time player ratings vs Reading

Antonin Kinsky – His passing has been solid so far this half, as he looks to be enjoying his role as a high-line goalkeeper. However, there was a bit of a mix-up at the back when dealing with a set-piece that could have led to a goal. Remains 0-0 though. 7.

Pedro Porro – The Spanish full-back is playing with a lot of energy, which is commendable given the sheer number of matches he played last season. He has looked to overlap, has also stayed back at times, helping form a back three, while also creating from deep. Impressive. 8.

Cristian Romero – Romero has not been called into action a lot so far this half, but he has still seen loads of the ball, and his passing has been sharp. Had a good chance in the dying moments of the first half after meeting a Porro cross, but his header was wide. 7.

Kevin Danso – Equally as solid as Romero has been at the back. Not much defending done by Tottenham just yet, but with the ball at his feet, Danso has been tidy. 7.

Destiny Udogie – Looks like the more advanced of both full-backs, tasked primarily with overlapping Moore on the left. Has got to the byline and tried to put in a few crosses. He has also been aggressive with his pressing high up the pitch. Very encouraging. 8.

Rodrigo Bentancur -Bentancur has been tasked with mopping up in this half, and he has done that pretty well. He has looked to play forward passes, instead of looking sideways. 7.

Pape Matar Sarr – The more energetic of the two pivots in midfield. While Bentancur is tasked with staying behind when Tottenham attack, Sarr has looked to push higher up the field and has tried to get into the box when an opportunity presents itself. 7.

Alfie Devine – Kulusevski and Maddison are out injured, and Devine has been tasked with the responsibility of playing in the ten position. He has seen loads of the ball and has been dispossessed a couple of times. However, he is not scared to play forward passes to the main man, Solanke. He did find the England international, but an off-balanced Solanke fired high. 7.

Brennan Johnson – A quiet first half from Johnson, whose touches have not been the best and often seemed to struggle to get past his man. 6.

Dominic Solanke – It is clear what Frank’s system is going to be about, as Solanke has been involved in the game, with virtually every player trying to feed the number nine. He is not being isolated, but also comes deep to link up play. 7.

Mikey Moore – Frank has not deployed Moore as a touchline winger in this clash, as Moore has occupied central zones, almost as a second number ten. He has linked up well with Udogie on the left and has looked to progress the ball up the field when he has had it. He has had a few shots, but they have been blocked. The youngster is one of the few players who has looked to run at his man in this tie so far. 7.
