Netflix confirms live-action Assassin’s Creed series with Emmy-nominated creators

After years of speculation, Netflix and Ubisoft have officially greenlit a live-action Assassin’s Creed series, with Emmy nominees Roberto Patino (Westworld, DMZ) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming) serving as creators, showrunners, and executive producers.

The series is described as a high-octane historical thriller, centered on the secret war between two factions: one seeking to control humanity’s future through manipulation, and the other fighting to preserve free will. Like the games, the show will follow characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape civilization’s destiny.

A franchise built for television

Since its debut in 2007, Assassin’s Creed has sold over 230 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling video game franchises in history. The series is known for its rich lore, time-hopping narratives, and philosophical themes, making it a natural fit for serialized storytelling.

Patino and Wiener emphasized that the show will explore universal human themes like identity, purpose, and connection across cultures and time:

“More than anything, this is a show about the value of human connection… and what we stand to lose when those connections break,” they said in a joint statement.

Netflix’s growing video game universe

This marks Netflix’s first live-action collaboration with Ubisoft, following animated projects like ‘Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix’ and the upcoming ‘Splinter Cell: Deathwatch’. ‘The Assassin’s Creed’ series is part of a broader strategy to expand the platform’s gaming adaptations, joining hits like ‘Devil May Cry’, ’Arcane’, ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and ‘Castlevania’.

While no release date or casting details have been announced, the production is officially underway, and expectations are sky-high.
