Tottenham fans stunned as ‘athletic freak’ returns to training way ahead of schedule

Tottenham fans cannot believe how quickly one player has returned to training, just five months after suffering a season-ending ACL injury.

Tottenham Hotspur have been without Radu Dragusin for five months now, since he picked up an ACL injury back in February. He only featured 16 times in the Premier League last season, amassing just 1,251 minutes on the pitch.

The Romania centre-back has been working his way back to full fitness for a number of months now, and fans have been kept updated through social media.

Back in February, two weeks after his surgery, Radu Dragusin was already seen in the gym as he began rehabilitation. Unfortunately, he had to watch on the sidelines as Tottenham won the Europa League at the end of the campaign.

Spurs fans react as Radu Dragusin returns to Tottenham training five months after ACL injury

On May 8, we were further updated on the fitness of the 23-year-old centre-back as a photo was shared showing Dragusin running twelve weeks post-operation.

Now, a fresh update has been shared, showing Radu Dragusin back in training, five months after his season-ending ACL injury, and Tottenham fans have been quick to praise the defender’s resilience during this difficult time.

One fan said: “He is an athletic freak (like Ivan Perisic), so I am sure his recovery is going well and maybe more accelerated than normal, BUT I hope we do not try to rush him back too soon. Although no doubt he wants to be involved in the remaining four World Cup qualifying matches for Romania.”

Another stated: “Was not Radu originally out until December? Amazing to see him back. Is he ready to play matches? Fans have written him off way too quickly. I am sure he will do much better with a protective midfield and a less high line. Plus, he is still very young.”

One more praised how quickly he has recovered: “Dude is insane, he is back on grass already, what the” while another called him a machine: “Dude is insane, he is back on grass already, what the.”

Other fans were quick to praise Spurs’ defensive depth: “We have some serious units at centre-back now between him, Luka Vuskovic, Kevin Danso, and Kota Takai.”

There was yet more surprise to see him back training: “Dragusin tore his ACL five months ago and now he is out training on grass with the ball. He is definitely way ahead of schedule.”

Finally, another added: “Wonder if he has a future under Frank. Perhaps his style suits him better.”

Dragusin could benefit from Thomas Frank’s Tottenham system

While Tottenham at some point struggled to field a side with a recognised centre-back last season, they now have eight defenders in their team.

Dragusin is back on the green, and while that is a lovely sight, the centre-back still has to work his way back to match fitness before he plays any competitive games.

The Romanian who struggled last season could be one of many players who benefit from Frank’s flexible system, as he could come good should the Dane opt for a back three.

Interest in Dragusin has not been rare, as Italian side AC Milan has shown some interest in signing the young defender.
