7 Most Exciting Video Game Details From Twisted Metal Season 2’s Tournament Teaser

Twisted Metal season 2’s tournament teaser includes multiple easter eggs and video game details that will pump up fans of the franchise. The first season of the Peacock show largely served as a prequel to the video games, allowing the audience to invest emotionally in the Twisted Metal characters and world.

Then, Twisted Metal season 1’s ending promised to place John Doe and Quiet smack-dab in the middle of Calypso’s tournament, which is the focus of the games. The first trailer introduced some of the characters who would compete, including Raven, Mr. Grimm, and Axel. However, it mostly held off on showing the action of the tournament. Luckily, Peacock has provided fans with a one-and-a-half-minute teaser, showcasing the start of the competition and many details that will make the video game fans happy.

Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” Plays In The Clip

Rob Zombie is on the cover of the Hillybilly Deluxe album

One of the most iconic aspects of the Twisted Metal video games is the inclusion of Rob Zombie’s music, particularly the song “Dragula.” His music appears in the soundtrack of Twisted Metal 3, 4, and 2012. Rob Zombie became so ingrained in Twisted Metal that they added him as a playable undead character in Twisted Metal 4, who drives his Dragula.

As such, many fans waited through Twisted Metal season 1 to hear “Dragula” and hoped for a Rob Zombie cameo. While that didn’t happen, their decision to hold off on the song feels gratifying now that we have the clip of Twisted Metal season 2’s tournament. The song starts playing when the tournament begins, which feels like the perfect time to use it.

“Dragula” perfectly fits with the high-speed racing and violent vehicular combat of the tournament. At the very least, we’re guaranteed that one song, but it’s possible they will feature more Rob Zombie music.

6 Sweet Tooth Has His Iconic Video Game Look During The Tournament

Sweet Tooth’s Head Is Famously On Fire In Twisted Metal

In both the Twisted Metal video games and the Peacock show, Sweet Tooth is a murderous clown who drives an ice cream truck. Though the character has changed from game to game, most versions of him include two significant features: 1. A clown mask, and 2. A head on fire.

10 Best Movies & TV Shows To Watch If You Love Twisted Metal

Peacock’s Twisted Metal is loud, eccentric, and full of fast car chases and larger-than-life characters – and so are these other movies and shows.

Sweet Tooth/Needles Kane’s mask is a newer addition, starting in Twisted Metal Black. The design of the mask appears to be inspired by the face paint from Twisted Metal 4. However, the head-on-fire has been around since Twisted Metal 2, appearing in all the games except Twisted Metal (1995), Twisted Metal 3, and Twisted Metal: Small Brawl.

The Peacock TV show did a great job of bringing Sweet Tooth to life, using the body of Samoa Joe and the voice of Will Arnett. The mask is almost identical to the video game, but it misses the fiery head. However, the tournament rectifies this, as Harold lights Sweet Tooth’s head on fire moments before it starts.

5 Mr. Grimm Will Be One Of The Most Skilled Drivers

Mr. Grimm’s Lack Of Armor Is His Biggest Weakness In The Twisted Metal Games

Mr. Grimm is a fan-favorite character from the video games, and he is one of the new characters in Twisted Metal season 2 who will compete in Calypso’s tournament. Though Mr. Grimm is one of the most difficult characters to play due to his lack of armor, he’s also considered one of the strongest thanks to his high agility and his special weapons.

However, the tournament teaser for Twisted Metal season 2 hints that they’ll make one major change. In the clip, he deflects a homing missile, one of the strongest weapons in the game, using his scythe without even looking back.

Based on this moment, Mr. Grimm’s lack of armor won’t be a disadvantage. Between the high speeds and his practically inhuman (hint hint) ability to sense weapons coming at him, Mr. Grimm is bound to be one of the best drivers in the tournament.

4 Dollface Will Drive ATV Instead Of Darkside

Twisted Metal’s tournament shows multiple beloved cars from the video games, including the Roach Coach, Junkyard Dog, and Shadow. It’s exciting to see that competitors will drive some fan favorites. However, there is one significant and surprising omission. In Twisted Metal Black and Twisted Metal (2012), Dollface drives Darkside, the black semitruck.

These 10 Twisted Metal Characters Deserve To Appear In Season 2

Peacock’s Twisted Metal season 2 has the opportunity to feature more characters from the Twisted Metal video game, and these would be great additions.

Instead of driving Darkside, Dollface will compete with ATV, a vehicle that only appears in Twisted Metal: Head-On. ATV’s driver in that game is Gene Ruttish. Based on this change, it’s possible the Peacock show will save Darkside for a later date. Ideally, they’ll have Mr. Ash, Darkside’s original driver, behind the wheel when they finally introduce the vehicle.

Additionally, Dollface driving ATV hopefully means that they’ll refrain from including Gene Ruttish, who isn’t a great character and wouldn’t really fit into the tone of the Peacock show.

Axel Looks Epic In The Peacock TV Show

Axel puts his hand into a wheel in Twisted Metal season 2's trailer

Axel is possibly the most anticipated character joining Twisted Metal. The character has appeared in all but the first game, and there’s nothing more fitting for the franchise than a man with (usually) no armor suspended between two gigantic wheels with machine guns attached.

Peacock showed a glimpse of Axel in Twisted Metal season 2 during the first trailer, but we didn’t get to see the design of the actual vehicle. It wasn’t clear whether he would be suspended from the wheels or standing on a platform. We didn’t know whether the machine guns would be on his shoulders like in some games or attached to the wheels.

The tournament clip doesn’t show Axel for very long, but what we do see looks the most similar to his Twisted Metal: Head-On design. The most similar elements include a platform to stand on, gauntlets to connect the hands to the wheels, and similar wheel styles.

2 Calypso Will Have A Flare For The Theatrical Like His Game Counterpart

Anthony Carrigan’s Calypso Will Maintain His Entertainer Persona

Although he becomes fleshed out over the course of the video game franchise, Twisted Metal’s Calypso starts out as quite the enigma. We know that he created the tournament and can grant any wish, no matter how impossible it is. The times that he appears in the early games, I feel like he has a charismatic showmanship quality, almost as if he’s trying to entertain an audience.

The brief tournament clip proves that Anthony Carrigan’s version of the character will maintain the bravado of the video game character. John Doe says, “You were right. This guy does know how to put on a show.” Additionally, he seems to create and/or time the tournament to an eclipse, giving the competition dramatic lighting.

The Tournament Teaser Shows 4 Missiles From The Twisted Metal Games

Mr. Grimm and Sweet Tooth in front of a yellow missile trail in Twisted Metal season 2's tournament teaser

Season 1 of Twisted Metal does a great job of fleshing out the world and post-apocalyptic ambiance, but it only includes a small amount of the violence that would be expected out of a Twisted Metal adaptation. However, season 2 promised to ramp things up with the demolition derby.

Luckily, Twisted Metal season 2’s tournament teaser shows that the vehicular combat, featuring some of the best missiles from the video games. Based on the color of their trails, the tournament will include one swarmer missile (yellow trail), a couple power missiles (red trail), multiple homing missiles (purple trail), and a couple fire missiles (orange trail).

The multitude of colors streaming across the screen, accompanied by explosions and guns going off, makes the scene even more epic than I imagined. It fits perfectly with the campy tone and the rundown setting of Twisted Metal.
