Macau’s government collected MOP45.26 billion ($5.59 billion) in gaming taxes during the first half of 2025, marking a modest 1.05% increase from the same period last year, according to data released by the Special Administrative Region’s Financial Services Bureau.

The figure accounts for 48.6% of the government’s full-year budget target for gaming tax revenue.

In June alone, gaming tax receipts reached MOP8.15 billion ($1.01 billion), reflecting a 4.83% year-on-year rise.

The latest data comes as Macau’s gaming sector continues a steady recovery. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) for June rose 19% from a year earlier to MOP21.06 billion ($2.6 billion), while total GGR for the first half of 2025 reached MOP118.77 billion ($14.69 billion), a 4.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Macau’s current 10-year gaming concession system, which took effect on January 1, 2024, maintains an effective tax rate of 40% on casino GGR.

Despite only marginal growth in tax collections for the first six months, the steady gains in GGR suggest momentum in the gaming industry as Macau continues to diversify its entertainment offerings and attract international tourists.
