Tottenham fans will be frustrated by latest Morgan Gibbs-White update out of Nottingham Forest

It has now emerged that Nottingham Forest tried to resolve the Morgan Gibbs-White situation amicably with Tottenham Hotspur before escalating matters to the Premier League and launching a legal complaint against the North London club.

Nottingham Forest have officially filed a legal complaint against Spurs for approaching their midfielder without their permission after Tottenham activated Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause last week.

According to reports, Forest are determined to make the Gibbs-White deal difficult for Spurs, even though they might not ultimately be able to stop the transfer from going through.

The Midlands club are furious that Spurs knew of Gibbs-White’s confidential release clause and are demanding to know how they did when they are not allowed to speak to the midfielder or his agent.

Nottingham Forest unable to reach amicable agreement with Tottenham over Morgan Gibbs-White

The Daily Mail have now claimed that Forest first tried to resolve the situation amicably with Daniel Levy and Tottenham Hotspur.

Only after being unable to do so did they write an explosive letter to Spurs and the Premier League about the matter.

Forest told Tottenham not to make any further contact with the 25-year-old last week and are now waiting for a decision from the Premier League on whether to investigate the matter.

If Premier League officials decide to launch an investigation and find Tottenham guilty, the North Londoners could be hit with a hefty fine or potentially even a transfer ban.

Are Nottingham Forest trying to get a few million extra from Spurs?

Super-agent Sky Andrew claimed a couple of days ago that Tottenham may have to pay more than £60m to land Gibbs-White.

However, he also insisted that it would be next to impossible to prove that Spurs directly contacted the England international.

Perhaps Forest expect to make things hard enough for Tottenham for the North London club to drop another £2m-£5m for Gibbs-White, thus giving the Midlands club and their owner, Evangelos Marinakis, a moral victory.
