Video game designer finds inspiration in Gem City

QUINCY (WGEM) – Quenton Mason has been playing video games his entire life. A naturally curious person, the Quincy man started making video games at an early age — with some help from his mom.

“I just looked up like, how do I make a video game,” Mason said. “Because I loved video games. I looked that up. I found some game development software; I didn’t understand a word of it. I asked my mom for help. She didn’t understand much, but she is more of the computer person in the family.”

He published his first full video game, “Nowhere Patrol,” for PC in 2018. In May, it became available on the Nintendo Switch platform, a process known as porting.

The process has taught him a lot about the video game industry, an industry that generated more than $184 billion in 2023.

He hopes to continue making games, and he has more projects planned.

“I can see it being my long term career,” Mason said. “I have more ideas for games that I think I will ever get to. … I love video games. I love making video games, and I want to share that with people. So that’s the dream. You know, I can see it being a lifelong thing.”
