Today’s NYT Connections puzzle proved challenging for numerous players, with one particularly “frustrating” red herring tripping up participants.

Referring to the deceptive answer, one player remarked, “I’ve never been more excited about and confident in a Connections answer….and then frustrated when it was wrong.”

The beloved word puzzle, which debuted through the New York Times in 2023, challenges players to organize 16 words into four-word groups sharing some form of logical link. Each category features a distinct color representing its difficulty level.

Yellow represents the simplest category, green indicates medium difficulty, blue signifies hard, and purple marks the most challenging. Puzzle evaluators at the New York Times assigned today’s connections puzzle a 3 out of 5 difficulty rating.

The purple category is being flagged as particularly tough today, with one player saying they “could have stared at that all day and not got it”.
