John Terry believes Tottenham have a major issue under new manager Thomas Frank, and he has not held back in revealing why he hopes they do not succeed.
Thomas Frank is laying the building blocks ahead of the 2025/26 season this summer, with his Spurs backroom staff now fully sorted.
The former Brentford manager has even given Tottenham fans a glimpse of how he plans to use Joe Newton, the club’s analyst, to devise opponent-specific tactical plans throughout next season.
The transfer market, under Frank’s guidance as Tottenham boss, has also shown early signs of serious intent, with nearly £89 million already spent on three players.
On top of that, a deal is currently in motion for Morgan Gibbs-White, after Spurs activated his release clause – if Tottenham are able to overcome Nottingham Forest’s legal complaints.
John Terry says Tottenham have a problem under Thomas Frank
Several former players have suggested that Thomas Frank could do well at Tottenham, with the most recent being Steven Caulker.
The former Tottenham defender labelled Frank a “brilliant manager”, adding that exciting times could be on the horizon for the N17 club under the Dane’s leadership.
John Terry, however, is not among those hoping for Spurs’ success next season. The Chelsea legend did not attempt to hide his dislike for the north London club, although he did still offer praise for Frank, calling him a good manager, but insisted there is a lingering problem at Tottenham.
When asked, “How do you think Spurs will do?”, Terry told talkSport: “Hopefully not too well. I think he is a really good manager, but the problem is I do not think they are in a good place based on where they finished last year.
“I look at Spurs and go, the foundations and the facilities are incredible, but I think it is time for a change and someone to come in and give it a really good go.
“I am happy for them to stay where they are. I hate Spurs and Spurs hate me, it is really simple. It is pure hate. I hope they stay where they are, if I am being honest.”
Of course, John Terry’s hate for Tottenham comes as no surprise, given the former England international is a Chelsea legend, and the rivalry between the two clubs is one of the fiercest in English football.
However, regardless of what Terry might think, Tottenham must improve on their domestic performance this season, as anything worse than 17th next term would see the club relegated – a scenario that simply cannot be entertained.
Thomas Frank will be hoping that a full pre-season with his squad, along with his traditional, hands-on training methods, will pay off once the new campaign kicks off in August.
