Morgan Gibbs-White left out of Nottingham Forest squad amid £60m Tottenham drama

Morgan Gibbs-White is nowhere to be seen as Nottingham Forest kick off their pre-season against Chesterfield, sparking further speculation about his reported move to Tottenham.

Pre-season preparations are very much underway for multiple clubs across Europe, including sides in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur, of course, are yet to take to the field since their final Premier League match in the 2024/25 season, which ended in defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, Spurs’ first pre-season clash has been scheduled for next week, July 19, with a fixture against EFL League One side Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading.

While Tottenham fans wait to see their side take to the pitch this summer, a few Premier League clubs have already begun pre-season matches, including Nottingham Forest – a side Spurs are looking to do business with.

It is no news that Tottenham Hotspur have triggered Forest man Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60 million release clause, and in fact, a deal was reported to be accelerating quickly, with a medical booked just 24 hours after the clause was activated.

However, Spurs’ approach has reportedly angered the higher-ups at Forest, with legal action now being taken against the north London side.

It has now emerged that Morgan Gibbs-White has been left out of the Nottingham Forest side set to face Chesterfield this afternoon, with the 25-year-old not even making the bench.

Gibbs-White absence adds fuel to Tottenham speculation

It has been reported that Spurs remain calm over the entire Gibbs-White situation, as they are confident they have not done anything wrong in their approach to the midfielder.

Gibbs-White impressed at the City Ground last season, scoring seven times and assisting ten goals in 34 Premier League appearances – a display that has left many Forest fans describing the 25-year-old as irreplaceable.

It is understood that Gibbs-White is open to a move to Tottenham as he looks to make a step up and play Champions League football.

But with the midfielder absent from the pre-season friendly squad, it remains to be seen whether this is a clear sign he is trying to force a move away from the City Ground.
