Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Yoane Wissa, even if they add £60m Morgan Gibbs-White to the £55m they have already spent on Mohammed Kudus this summer.
Tottenham have made some ambitious moves over the last couple of days. Spurs have secured Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55m, and according to various reports, the Lilywhites have activated Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60m release clause.
Tottenham were initially over the moon that the club had managed to get two big-name Premier League stars through the door at the start of pre-season, until something very Spurs happened.
Nottingham Forest accused Tottenham of an ‘illegal approach’ for Gibbs-White and have called the transfer off for the time being, despite Spurs triggering his release clause.
It remains up in the air as to whether the Lilywhites will actually get their man, as Forest look into potential legal complaints.
Tottenham will have to spend big on Yoane Wissa
The Standard have now said that Tottenham remain keen on landing Wissa, regardless of whether they get Gibbs-White. The Brentford star is also on the radar of Nottingham Forest, rather ironically.
The report claims that Forest saw a £22m bid for the striker turned down by Brentford in January, and they have had another offer in the region of £20m turned down by the Bees this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur enquired about the 28-year-old’s availability earlier this summer and were told to pay £50m for his services, even though the centre-forward only has a year left on his contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.
It is revealed that there have subsequently been no contacts between Spurs and Brentford over Wissa, but the striker remains a target for Thomas Frank’s men.
Spurs, Nottingham Forest, and a strange transfer triangle
The Standard point out that Forest planned to reinvest the fee they received from Spurs for Gibbs-White, as well as the £52m they got from Newcastle United from Elanga.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men plan to use the majority of those funds to bolster their attack, with Wissa remaining a key target.
As a result, Spurs might have just inadvertently equipped Forest with the funds to secure a deal for Wissa by paying £60m to the Midlands club for Gibbs-White.
However, that all becomes a moot point if Forest successfully get the Gibbs-White to Tottenham transfer thrown out.
