Liliana Costa: “I want Clarion Gaming events to be the best platforms to bring Latam and the rest of the world together” | Yogonet International

On July 2 and 3, iGB L!VE took place at the ExCeL London venue in the British capital. The event, one of the most anticipated of the year in Europe, gathered the main players in the industry.

Much of the participants’ interest was focused on the relationship between the European market and the Latin American scene, which is growing rapidly. Yogonet spoke to Liliana Costa, Clarion Gaming‘s Manager for Latam, about this topic.

With the clear objective of establishing ties between both markets, Costa shared her vision about the gaming sector in the countries of the region, as well as the company’s future plans, including the hosting of some of its most important events.

First of all, what can you tell us about your work at Clarion and the development of events that have become classics for the industry over the years?

I have been described as the “bridge” between Clarion Gaming and the Latin American region. It’s not simply a matter of deciding to focus on Latin America: we have worked very hard for many years to build the relationships and connections that allow us to accurately meet the needs of all parties involved. From a personal perspective, I want to ensure that Clarion Gaming events are recognized as the best possible platforms to bring the Latin American gaming community together with the rest of the world.

What similarities and differences do you see between the Latin American market and the European or Asian markets?

First of all, all three regions have experienced significant growth in several verticals and in a wide variety of games. E-sports have gained significant popularity in Latin America, Europe, and Asia, with numerous tournaments and an increasing number of professional players, teams, and tournaments. The industry in all three regions contributes significantly to the economy, creating jobs and generating significant tax revenues.

In terms of differences, Europe is the largest gaming market, followed by Asia and Latin America. In addition, Europe represents a much more mature market, while Latin America is in the process of developing a regulatory framework in several jurisdictions. All three markets are driven by innovation and nurtured by the latest technologies.

From your experience in the gaming sector, how do you see the Latin American market, and can we expect growth in the coming years?

Gross gaming revenue (GGR) from the Latin American gambling market will have nearly tripled between 2020 and 2025, exceeding USD 3 billion. The online gambling market in Latin America is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11.9% between 2025 and 2030, with revenues expected to reach USD 10.4 billion by 2030.

Sports betting is the largest and fastest-growing segment within the online gambling market. We will see significant regulatory changes in several countries, which will create a more stable business environment for operators to invest.

ICE Barcelona 2025

How does Clarion, through brands such as ICE and iGB L!VE, support this growth in the region? What are your expectations?

It is very clear that more and more industry professionals are eager to learn more about Latin America and the opportunities that exist. Our challenge is to meet that demand, and ICE Barcelona and iGB L!VE, which had an exceptional debut in London, provide a platform to connect and engage, offering more information, more segmented networking activities, more regulatory updates, more Ibero-American initiatives, and more areas dedicated to connecting with Latin America.  We have an ongoing commitment to use the influence and weight of our events to strengthen collaboration between Latin American companies and European countries, facilitating economic cooperation and investment.

In addition to fostering opportunities for collaboration in technology and innovation, the trade shows also play a key role in promoting cultural awareness and understanding in order to foster productive business relationships. Collaboration is one of our top priorities and can take the form of collaboration across regions, with industry associations, government agencies, and business councils. Facilitating partnerships between Latin American and European companies is an invaluable component of both iGB L!VE London and ICE Barcelona’s experience.

What are the company’s objectives for the near future concerning the Latin American market?

ICE and iGB L!VE serve as facilitators of opportunities and connections. Operators seek stability and clarity in terms of industry regulation. Responsible, realistic, and progressive regulatory frameworks are the foundation on which we can help build a long-term, sustainable industry.
