Forest say they never gave Spurs permission to hold talks with Gibbs-White and are suspicious over a breach of confidentiality regarding his £60m release clause.

Insiders at the City Ground regard the deal as being off as it stands.

There is still a chance that the deal could later be revived depending on the outcome of Forest’s complaint.

Reports had suggested Gibbs-White was set to undergo a medical at Tottenham on Friday before concluding the move.

The midfielder enjoyed a superb season for Forest last term having helped the club qualify for the UEFA Conference League – their first venture into Europe in 30 years.

The 25-year-old netted seven goals and registered eight assists in his 34 Premier League appearances with his influence on the team a standout feature.

The midfielder joined Forest from Wolves in 2022 for a club-record fee of £25m plus add-ons.

He has gone on to make 118 appearances for the club as they enjoyed their best Premier league finish since 1998.

His heroics were recognised by former England interim head coach Lee Carsley who handed Gibbs-White his senior debut in September’s Nations League win over the Republic of Ireland.

Manchester City were linked with a move for Gibbs-White earlier in the summer but Spurs have since stepped up their interest.

After landing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham earlier this week, Spurs boss Thomas Frank was hoping to seal a second signing in quick fashion.

However, Frank may have to rethink his plans if Forest pulls themselves away from the negotiating table completely.

Tottenham remain interested in Brentford’s Yoane Wissa while teammate Bryan Mbeumo is also an option amid Manchester United’s ongoing pursuit.

Meanwhile, Forest are set to lose the services of winger Anthony Elanga who is closing in on a switch to Newcastle.

Forest are set to receive £55m for the Sweden international with an official announcement set to take place in the coming days.
